Frappe Technologies

Frappe Technologies is a Mumbai-based software company best known for ERPNext, a free and open-source ERP. Rushabh Mehta founded the company in 2008. It also maintains the Frappe Framework, a Python and JavaScript low-code web framework on which ERPNext and its other apps are built. The company describes itself as "a collective with a loose structure of a for-profit company". The company's team page lists Nabin Hait as VP of Products and Prakash Hodage as VP of Finance, alongside Rushabh Mehta as founder.

ERPNext covers accounting, buying, selling, stock and inventory, manufacturing, projects and CRM. Frappe also publishes Frappe HR (HRMS and payroll), Frappe Books (free desktop accounting for small businesses), Helpdesk, Frappe CRM and Frappe Insights. ERPNext includes an Indian localisation for GST invoicing, e-way bills and TDS, which is widely used by Indian SMEs and manufacturers.

All of Frappe's software is open source and can be self-hosted for free. The company earns revenue from Frappe Cloud managed hosting, paid support, and a network of implementation partners. Frappe Cloud publishes subscription prices on its website, including rupee prices for Indian customers. Its team page lists Aditya Hase as founder of Frappe Cloud, the company's managed hosting service.

Frappe ran without outside funding for about 12 years. Zerodha's Rainmatter then invested about ₹10 crore (US$1.35 million) in the company, the first outside investment it accepted. Zerodha also runs ERPNext internally. The investment was announced on 24 November 2020. Frappe described it as its first funding round in 12 years, and Zerodha presented it as a sign that enterprises were accepting open-source software.
