Shopify

Shopify Inc. is a Canadian commerce software company. Tobias Lütke, Daniel Weinand and Scott Lake founded it in 2006. Its registered head office is at 151 O'Connor Street in Ottawa. Since 2020 Shopify has described itself as a digital-by-default, remote-first employer, and its 2025 Form 10-K listed New York as a principal executive office alongside the Ottawa address. Harley Finkelstein is President, and Tobi Lütke leads the company as CEO.

Shopify's platform lets merchants build online stores and sell across channels. Products on this site include Shopify itself, Shopify POS for in-person retail, Shopify Shipping, Stocky for inventory, and the Shopify App Store of third-party extensions. The company says Shopify businesses have processed more than US$1 trillion in total sales. Merchants add features through apps from the Shopify App Store, many of which are built by Indian developers. Shopify says 10% of US e-commerce sales are processed through its platform.

Shopify sells self-serve subscriptions with monthly or annual billing, starting with a free trial. Indian merchants typically use local payment gateways such as Razorpay, PayU or Cashfree through Shopify's payment integrations, and Indian logistics apps for shipping. Transaction fees depend on the plan and payment provider. Shopify also sells Shopify Plus for high-volume merchants, and merchants can add sales channels such as social commerce and marketplaces from their admin.

Shopify trades on the New York Stock Exchange and the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol SHOP. It says 675 million+ unique shoppers bought from Shopify stores in 2023. Shopify does not publish India-specific revenue or merchant figures.
