Twilio

Twilio Inc. is a US cloud communications company whose principal executive offices are at 101 Spear Street in San Francisco. Jeff Lawson, Evan Cooke and John Wolthuis founded it in 2008. It provides APIs that let developers add SMS, voice, video, WhatsApp messaging, email and authentication to their applications.

Its main products are Programmable Messaging and Voice, the WhatsApp Business API, Twilio Verify for one-time passwords and two-factor authentication, SendGrid for transactional and marketing email, the Twilio Flex contact centre platform, and Segment, a customer data platform acquired in 2020. In India, businesses mainly use Twilio for OTP delivery, WhatsApp notifications and customer support.

Twilio prices on usage, with published per-message, per-minute and per-verification rates that vary by country and channel. Committed-use discounts are negotiated through its sales team. Sending SMS to Indian numbers requires DLT registration of the sender and message templates under TRAI rules, and Twilio documents this process for its customers.

Twilio is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Khozema Shipchandler succeeded co-founder Jeff Lawson as CEO in January 2024. Twilio has engineering and operations teams in Bengaluru, and it files annual 10-K reports with the SEC that give its headcount and properties. SendGrid and Segment continue to run as product brands within Twilio. Its 10-K for fiscal 2025 lists 101 Spear Street, San Francisco, as its principal office. Twilio reports its business in two segments: Twilio Communications, covering messaging, voice and email, and Segment, and it has sold or wound down several non-core products since 2023.
