For software companies: reach Indian businesses ready to buy
LinkedIn is a professional networking platform headquartered at 1000 W Maude Avenue in Sunnyvale, California. Reid Hoffman and colleagues co-founded it in 2002, and the service launched in May 2003. Microsoft acquired LinkedIn in 2016, and it now operates as a Microsoft subsidiary with its own leadership team.
Its business products fall into four main lines. Talent Solutions covers LinkedIn Recruiter, job postings and LinkedIn Talent Insights. Marketing Solutions covers sponsored content, lead generation forms, message ads and audience targeting through Campaign Manager. Sales Solutions covers Sales Navigator for B2B prospecting. LinkedIn Learning offers online courses. Premium subscriptions are also sold to individuals and small businesses.
LinkedIn sells to Indian businesses online on a self-serve basis and through its enterprise sales teams. Premium, Recruiter Lite and Sales Navigator Core publish prices, and India is often shown local rupee pricing. Advertising is sold on an auction basis with a minimum daily budget, while Recruiter and Learning enterprise licences are quoted individually. Job postings can be free or promoted for a fee.
India is one of LinkedIn's largest markets by membership, and the company has offices in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Gurugram and other cities. In April 2026 Ryan Roslansky stepped down as CEO after six years, and COO Daniel Shapero succeeded him. Roslansky kept a wider Microsoft role as executive vice president overseeing LinkedIn and Microsoft Office. LinkedIn crossed US$5 billion in quarterly revenue for the first time around the time of this change. Because LinkedIn is part of Microsoft, its financial results appear within Microsoft's reports rather than being filed separately. The platform is also subject to Indian IT rules on grievance officers and content moderation.
