Compare hospital ERP software in India: accounting, GST, purchase, inventory, payroll, HR and how an ERP should connect to your HMS. Pricing models and demo tips.
Quick answer
Hospital ERP software runs the business side of a hospital: accounts, GST, purchase and stores, assets, payroll and HR. Indian hospitals either buy an HMS that includes these back-office modules or connect their HMS to a general ERP or accounting system such as Tally, ERPNext or SAP. The right choice depends on your size, number of branches and how tightly finance must link to patient billing.
A hospital is a large business as well as a clinical organisation. Behind the wards sit accounts payable to hundreds of suppliers, pharmacy and consumable stores, expensive equipment, shift-based staff, visiting consultant payouts and statutory filings. Hospital ERP software brings these back-office functions together and, ideally, connects them to patient billing so revenue, costs and inventory tell one consistent story. In India, the word ERP is used loosely: some vendors mean the non-clinical modules of their HMS, others mean a general ERP configured for healthcare. This guide helps you decide which approach fits.

Two patterns are common. In the first, a single hospital information system covers clinical, billing and back-office modules, which keeps data in one place but may give less accounting depth. In the second, the HMS handles patients and billing, and a separate accounting or ERP system handles finance, HR and payroll, with an integration posting daily revenue, receipts and stock movements. Small hospitals often run HMS plus Tally. Larger groups may use an enterprise ERP. Either works if the integration is reliable and tested.
Indian hospitals must handle GST correctly across exempt healthcare services and taxable items such as pharmacy sales, deduct TDS on consultant and vendor payments, and run payroll with PF, ESI and state professional tax. Pharmacy stock must support batch, expiry and the records expected under the Drugs and Cosmetics rules. NABH accreditation places weight on staff credentials, training records and equipment maintenance, so HR and asset modules should keep these auditable. Confirm statutory treatment with your chartered accountant.
ERP projects fail on data and process, not software. Freeze your chart of accounts, item master and vendor master before migration, and remove duplicates. Agree on who approves purchases and at what value. Move opening balances at a clean period end, such as the start of a financial year or quarter, and run payroll in parallel for at least one cycle. Keep the go-live of clinical and finance modules separate if you can, so problems in one do not block the other.
FAQs
It is software that manages the non-clinical operations of a hospital, including accounting, purchase, inventory, assets, payroll and HR, often linked to the hospital management system that handles patients and billing.
It depends on your size. Many small and mid-size hospitals use an HMS with built-in back-office modules or an HMS plus Tally. Larger groups may pair their HMS with an enterprise ERP. Compare options on how well finance integrates with patient billing.
It is usually priced by beds, users, modules or branches, either as a subscription or a one-time licence with annual maintenance. Implementation, data migration and integrations are often charged separately. Ask for a total cost over three to five years.
An HMS focuses on patient-facing work such as registration, clinical records, orders and billing. An ERP focuses on finance, supply chain and people. Some Indian vendors sell both in one suite.
Yes. Most clinics can use standard accounting software such as Tally or a cloud accounting app, as long as clinic billing data can be exported or synced. A full ERP is rarely needed for a single clinic.
Not always. Some HMS and ERP suites include payroll and HR. Hospitals with complex shifts, many contract staff or several branches often choose a dedicated HR and payroll system and integrate it with accounts.
