Haptik (Jio)

Haptik is a Mumbai-headquartered conversational AI company founded in 2013 by Aakrit Vaish and Swapan Rajdev. In April 2019, Reliance Jio acquired majority control of Haptik (a reported 87% stake) in a deal valued at about US$100 million, and the company now operates within the Jio Platforms group.

Haptik builds AI assistants and chatbots that enterprises deploy on websites, apps and WhatsApp for customer support, lead generation and sales. Its platform includes generative AI agents, live-chat handover to human agents and analytics. In 2020 it launched Interakt, a self-serve tool for small and medium businesses that runs on the WhatsApp Business API and offers a shared team inbox, broadcast campaigns, catalogue-based commerce, automated notifications and integrations with Shopify and WooCommerce.

Haptik's enterprise platform is sold through direct sales, with custom pricing. Interakt is sold online with published monthly and annual subscription plans in rupees. On top of the plan fee, customers pay Meta's per-conversation WhatsApp charges, which Interakt passes through. As a Meta Business Partner, Interakt can onboard businesses to the WhatsApp Business API directly.

On its About page, Haptik says Ahshad Jussawala is CEO and describes a global team of more than 200 people. Its other leaders include CTO Saumil Shah, VP and Business Head Pooja Modi and CFO Rupesh Maheshwari. The company has received analyst recognition as a conversational AI vendor in India and the Asia-Pacific region. Its enterprise customers are concentrated in retail, financial services, telecom and travel, and Haptik uses its Jio connection when marketing to large Indian brands. Founders Aakrit Vaish and Swapan Rajdev have since moved on from day-to-day leadership, and the company is run by its current management team under Jio. Customer data for Interakt is processed through Meta's WhatsApp Business infrastructure.
