How to choose

Ask the vendor to show a patient move from diagnosis to a six-cycle chemo regimen, including a dose change for toxicity, a delayed cycle and a pre-authorisation for the next cycle. Check the safety checks and the audit trail. Clarify whether the product is a full hospital system with an oncology module or a separate oncology system that must integrate with your HMS, LIS, PACS and radiotherapy systems. For large centres, integration usually decides success.

Implementation tips

Have your oncologists and pharmacists review and approve every regimen template before go-live; do not rely on vendor defaults. Start with day care and pharmacy, where safety gains are clearest. Plan interfaces with laboratory, radiology and radiotherapy systems early. Train nurses on the day-care module with real schedules.
